Product description

The Domineering Spirit of Horse Head Rock: Matouyan Rougui Step into the boldest expression of Chinese Oolong with our signature Matouyan Rougui. Sourced exclusively from Matouyan (Horse Head Rock)—one of the most fiercely sought-after core micro-terroirs (Zhengyan) within the Wuyi Mountains—this tea is legendary for its aggressive, deeply penetrating character.  we believe this tea perfectly encapsulates the concept of handcrafted scarcity. Every leaf represents the immense time value required to master traditional Wuyi charcoal roasting, resulting in a cultural premium that true connoisseurs instantly recognize.

The Leaves & The Liquor The meticulous, generations-old roasting process brings out a profound depth in both the physical leaf and the brewed tea.

  • The Dry Leaves: Carefully hand-processed and traditionally charcoal-roasted, the dry leaves are robust, dark, and tightly twisted into long, wiry strips. They carry a concentrated, warm aroma of roasted nuts and dry spice.

  • The Tea Liquor: Upon steeping, the liquor transforms into a deeply radiant, clear amber-red hue. It is remarkably thick and visually stunning, especially when poured into a traditional Jianzhan or porcelain teacup.

Tasting Notes Matouyan Rougui is famously described in the tea world as "domineering" (Ba Qi). It delivers a powerful sensory impact that lingers long after the tea session ends.

  • Aroma: An explosive, sharp, and highly aromatic bouquet of warm cinnamon, baked orchard fruits, and a distinct, fiery mineral edge.

  • Palate: Rich, full-bodied, and deeply commanding. The unmistakable spicy warmth of cinnamon floods the palate, quickly balancing out with a robust, roasted minerality—the legendary Yan Yun (Rock Rhyme).

  • Finish: A fiercely enduring, resonant aftertaste (Hui Gan) that grips the throat, leaving a complex, spicy-sweet sensation that evolves with every breath.

Premium Artisan Presentation A tea of this pedigree requires packaging that honors its heritage. Deliberately moving away from mass-market flashiness, this tea is presented in minimalist, textured brown kraft paper boxes. Finished with a classic red artisan seal and traditional calligraphy denoting its elite Matouyan core terroir, this packaging speaks to a quiet, confident luxury. It is a striking addition to any curated collection and an exceptional gift.

Recommended Brewing Guide (Gongfu Style) To tame the powerful spirit of this rock tea and unlock its deepest layers, we highly recommend traditional Gongfu brewing using an authentic Yixing Zisha (purple clay) teapot. The porous nature of the purple clay perfectly rounds out the fiery charcoal notes, elevating the tea ritual to an art form.

  • Water Temperature: 100°C (A rolling boil is absolutely essential to forcefully extract the deep, spicy aromatics of this heavily roasted tea).

  • Tea to Water Ratio: 1 single-serving box (approx. 8g) per 110ml–120ml of water.

  • Steeping Time: Flash steep the first 3 infusions for roughly 5–8 seconds. Gradually add 5–10 seconds for each subsequent brew. The exceptional endurance of these artisan leaves will easily provide 8 to 10 fiercely flavorful infusions.
