Craftsmanship

The Art of Craftsmanship

Every Terasilk piece begins not in a factory, but in the hands of a master artisan — shaped by tradition, patience, and an unwavering respect for material.

Clay Sourcing

Our Yixing teapots are made exclusively from Zisha clay, sourced from the ancient mines of Yixing, Jiangsu Province. This rare clay has been prized for over five centuries for its unique mineral composition and its ability to enhance the flavour of tea over time.

Hand Shaping

Each teapot is formed entirely by hand. Our artisans use traditional wooden tools and bamboo paddles to coax the clay into form — a process that can take days for a single piece. No two teapots are identical.

The Pottery Wheel

For certain forms, the potter's wheel is used — a meditative practice requiring years of training. The wheel demands complete presence, translating the artisan's intention directly into clay.

Carving & Decoration

Once shaped, pieces are carved with fine tools to add texture, calligraphy, or botanical motifs. This stage requires a steady hand and deep artistic knowledge passed down through generations.

Kiln Firing

The final transformation happens in the kiln, where temperatures exceed 1,100°C. This firing process vitrifies the clay, creating the characteristic matte surface and rich colour unique to authentic Zisha ware.

Tea Craftsmanship

Our premium teas are sourced from single-origin gardens across Yunnan, Fujian, and Zhejiang. Each harvest is processed using traditional methods — withering, rolling, oxidising, and drying — to preserve the full complexity of the leaf.
